An ethos to live by…

Black Palm products are vegan friendly, eco-conscious and cruelty free. Right down to the packaging, we consider every link in the chain.

Here, Clare explains the importance of respecting our own core beliefs in business and the frustrating choices eco-considerate brands have — especially in an industry that so often overlooks ethical production.

Never underestimate a business with a genuine focus on sustainability over profit. It’s no secret that if we were to use plastic packaging our profit margins would be considerably larger. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I've been vegan for 10 years now so it was a no brainer that my business would be as well. Veganism is proven to be a more sustainable and earth friendly way of living, which is fantastic. But for me, it all started for the animals! As consumers, we have the power to stand up for what we believe in and shape the future of our planet through what we choose to spend our hard earned cash on.

We will always promote the zero waste lifestyle but we also hope to communicate the deep understanding that it’s not always that simple.
— Clare Dunnery, Founder Black Palm

We will always promote the zero waste lifestyle but we also hope to communicate the deep understanding that it’s not always that simple. The cost of living is outrageous and sometimes we are forced to shop an unsustainable option. For example, taking your own veg bags to the food shop and having to turn down the package free apples because they are double the price of the 6 pack wrapped in plastic and you're on a tight budget. It can be down to accessibility or privilege, or many other factors. It's a complex web indeed.

We aim to promote the sustainable alternative to those who can afford it, not to make anybody feel guilty about not living a flawless zero waste lifestyle.
